It is a public limited company which was formed in November 2007 as a joint venture between IL & FS Environmental Infrastructure and Services Limited (formerly known as Ill & FS Waste Management & Urban Services Limited) and Centre for Development Communication ( a registered trust ) with an objective of handling collection and transportation of municipal solid waste. It is the first and only business arrangement of its kind, where a corporate entity and trust have joined hands together to align the business interest of the corporate with that of the development initiatives of the Trust.
The mission is to provide world class services in collection, segregation, transportation and trading of Municipal Solid Waste using appropriate technology.
IEISL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS), has established several benchmarks in the Environment sector and has emerged as a leader in the Waste Management sector, promoting environmentally sustainable solutions. IEISL is mandated to manage about 5,000 tonnes of waste every day and is amongst the first to mainstream Carbon financing in waste management.
Further, the company has established its credentials in Environmental Planning and Management, Regulatory Compliance Assessment, Waste Management, Environmental and Social Risks Assessment, Clean Development Mechanism, Energy Efficiency and Enterprise Geo-Spatial Solutions.
IEISL successfully created a niche in the Waste Sector by innovating a viable waste processing business model including - offtaking of compost by fertilizer companies,initiating the retail marketing of eco-friendly compost 'EcoSmart'. During Common Wealth Games, approximately 2,00,000 tons of Construction and Demolition waste has been lifted from the streets of entire Delhi for processing at its facility at Burari, Delhi.
CDC is involved in management of Solid Waste in Urban and Rural areas through scientifically designed and effective methodologies for almost two decades. CDC has a pan-India presence, with on-going projects in more than sixteen cities.
The key operational areas of CDC includes Waste Management in Urban and Rural areas, Urban and Rural Health, Professional Internships, Training & Research, Micro-finance, Social Security of waste workers and street vendors.
CDC offers a comprehensive service for solid waste management, integrated approach for management of MSW from segregated waste collection at source, efficient and effective transportation as well as scientific disposal. CDC has accomplished 42 projects ranging from door to door garbage collection, total sanitation solutions, road sweeping etc. It has 12 ongoing projects in the cities like Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Kanpur and some towns.
CDC was awarded with the UN Habitat Scroll of Honour in 2004 for its best practices in waste management in India. It is the highest honour in the sector till date.
